The study explored the relationship between a history of childhood sexual abuse and later psychological and sexual adjustment of 582 college men. This study with 182 homosexually active adult men of Puerto Rican ancestry in New York City found that men who had been sexually abused by an older sexual partner before the age of 13 were significantly more likely to engage in high-risk sexual behavior without protection than other homosexually active men. Comparison of 70 girls (ages 3 to 5 years) who had been sexually abused and 42 nonabused girls found abused girls exhibited more sexual behaviors and more internalizing problem behaviors.
