Wong, Virginia; Wong, Sik Nin – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1991
Brainstem auditory evoked potentials were compared in 109 children with infantile autism, 38 with autistic condition, 19 with mental retardation, and 20 normal children. Children with infantile autism or autistic condition had significantly longer brainstem transmission time than normal children suggesting neurological damage as the basis of…

Nowakowski, R. S. – Child Development, 1987
The goals of this review are to: (1) provide a set of concepts to aid in the understanding of complex processes which occur during central nervous system (CNS) development; (2) illustrate how they contribute to our knowlege of adult brain anatomy; and (3) delineate how modifications of normal developmental processes may affect the structure and…

Gorga, Michael P.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1989
Auditory brainstem responses (ABR) were measured in 535 children from 3 months to 3 years of age. Results suggested that changes in wave V latency with age are due to central (neural) factors and that age-appropriate norms should be used in evaluations of ABR latencies in children. (Author/DB)

Goldman-Rakic, Patricia S. – Child Development, 1987
Recent studies on the biological development of the prefrontal cortex in rhesus monkeys are reviewed. These studies have elucidated the basic neural circuitry underlying the delayed-response function in adult nonhuman primates and suggest that a critical mass of cortical synapses is important for the emergence of this cognitive function. John, E. R.; And Others – Science, 1986
Reviews a study which sought to obtain a quantitative metabolic map of the neurons mediating a specific memory. Research results support notions of cooperative processes in which nonrandom behavior of high ensembles of neural elements mediates the integration and processing of information and the retrieval of memory. Locke, John L. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1994
A theory of normal and delayed development of language is presented, arguing that linguistic capacity develops in gradual, sequential, critically timed phases; children with slowly developing brains have delays in storing utterances; a critical period for activation of experience-dependent grammatical mechanisms declines without optimal result;…

Davidson, Patricia S. – 1983
The learning of mathematics was addressed in this study, with attention in this first volume focused on defining specific learning styles in mathematics, classifying individuals according to learning styles, relating achievement to learning styles, associating learning styles with localized hemispheric functioning of the brain, correlating…
