Walker, H. Jesse – International Journal of Social Education, 1990
Considers the interface of humans and seacoasts over time. Explains how coastal zones are formed and human attempts to defend against sea level changes. Charts the percentage of major world cities that also are ports. Postulates how the greenhouse effect could influence sea level, examining potential human responses to changes in coastal zones.…

Astley, W. Graham – Administrative Science Quarterly, 1985
This paper distinguishes between two ecological perspectives on organizational evolution: population ecology, which limits investigation to evolutionary change in established populations, and community ecology, which focuses on the rise and fall of populations themselves as basic units of evolutionary change. These perspectives produce contrasting…

Allmon, Warren Douglas – Journal of Geological Education, 1987
Discusses some parallels that seem to exist between mass extinction recognizable in the geologic record and the impending extinction of a significant proportion of the earth's species due largely to tropical deforestation. Describes some recent theories of causal factors and periodicities in mass extinction. (Author/TW)

A M Productions Inc., Vancouver (British Columbia). – 1998
This video covers the "Internet for Information Management" session of the "Eco-Informa '96" conference. Four speakers presented information on the use of the World Wide Web to disseminate ecological information provided by their agencies. Each speaker introduced their agency, discussing its mission and the kinds of information they present over…

Preston, G. R.; Fuggle, R. F. – Journal of Environmental Education, 1987
Reports on a study into the awareness of conservation issues, and the enhancement thereof, as a result of visiting interpretive facilities in three South African nature reserves. Results indicate a statistically significant increase in awareness at all three reserves, although the levels of awareness were low. (TW)

Arbona, Sonia I.; Hunter, John M. – Journal of Geography, 1995
Presents the results of a field study done on 7 wells providing 37% of the total aquifer production for 4 municipalities in Puerto Rico. Each sampled well showed signs of contamination by heavy metals, nitrate, and semivolatile organic compounds. Although found in low concentrations, current development threatens groundwater quality. Greenberg, Mark T.; Crnic, Keith A. – Child Development, 1988
The results, which contrasted markedly with findings of major group differences at 12 months of age, indicated that by age two no group differences were apparent on any child development, mother-child interaction, or maternal attitude measures, except that preterms were significantly poorer in motor skills than were full-term infants.
