A discussion of use of multiple regression to analyze faculty salaries, specifically for job discrimination litigation, concludes that, although appropriate regression studies may not win a case, their deficiencies or absence can lose one. In addition, the more complex the salary structure, the more useful regression analysis can be. (MSE)

Campuses should act on salary equity issues before litigation arises. Campuses must resolve database problems, unfocused studies, problems in data interpretations, and constraints on implementing findings if they are to take timely actions.
