Hali, Nur Ihsan – International Journal of Education and Literacy Studies, 2017
This article is inspired by Howard Gardner's concept of linguistic intelligence and also from some authors' previous writings. All of them became the authors' reference in developing ideas on constructing a literary learning model based on linguistic intelligence. The writing of this article is not done by collecting data empirically, but by…

Auditory Evoked Responses and Their Modifications during Conditioning Paradigm in Autistic Children.

Martineau, J.; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1987
Auditory evoked responses (AERs) were recorded for 16 autistic children (ages 2-10 years) and age matched normal and retarded controls. The pattern characterizing the effects on AERs of coupling sound and light (conditioning phenomenon) was observed for both autistic and normal controls, but not for retarded children. (Author/DB)

Konstantareas, M. Mary; Homatidis, Soula – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1987
Evaluation of the frequency of ear infections, ear tube drainage, and deafness for 51 autistic children (ages 2-18) indicated that autistic children had a greater incidence of ear infections than matched normal peers and lower functioning children had an earlier onset of ear infections than higher functioning autistic peers. Bernheimer, Lucinda P.; Keogh, Barbara K. – American Journal of Mental Retardation, 1988
A prospective longitudinal study of the development of children with delays of unknown etiology over a six-year period (from mean age 34.2 months to 109.7 months) indicated that, for the group as a whole, scores were stable with the most able children at entry making the most progress over time. O'Malley, Colleen J.; Blankemeyer, Maureen; Walker, Kathleen K.; Dellmann-Jenkins, Mary – Journal of Family Issues, 2007
There is increased interest by parents in communicating with their children about political violence. However, limited attention in the scholarly literature has focused on parent-child communication about war and terrorism. In response, the purpose of this study is to assess, within their respective ecological contexts, American and Northern Irish…

Beeghly, James H. L.; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1987
Nine autistic children (ages 7-14) were treated with fenfluramine hydrochloride or inactive placebo in a double-blind crossover trial. Results, while providing minimal support for the effectiveness of fenfluramine, also suggested the possibility that fenfluramine blood levels might be related to treatment response. (Author/DB)

Guttentag, Robert E. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1985
Three experiments tested for developmental changes in attention to auditory and visual signals. Results showed that adults and seven-year-olds tended to allocate their attention to vision rather than audition when no precue was provided. While not entirely consistent, results with four-year-olds suggested a similar biasing of attention to vision.…

Ackerman, Brian P. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1988
Five experiments investigated whether the cued recall of children and adults differed for classified events featuring different category and relation types. Recall for events differed strongly for children and adults. Differences were attributed to properties of the internal structure of event representation in memory. (SKC)

Knowlton, Marie – Exceptional Children, 1997
Visual scanning behavior and efficiency of 22 children with visual disabilities and 25 children without disabilities (ages 3.5 to 10 years) were studied. Significant differences were found between groups in length of scan path and number of objects reported, but no significant differences in scanning efficiency. Coordinated binocular eye movements…

Maner, Kimberly Jones; Smith, Anne; Grayson, Liane – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2000
This study examined possible influences of utterance length and complexity on speech motor performance with eight 5-year-old children and eight young adults using the spatiotemporal index (STI), a measure of stability of lip movement over phrase repetitions. The STI was significantly higher in the complex sentence condition and for the younger…

Britton, Helen L.; O'Keefe, Mary Allyce – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1991
This study of 136 children (aged 2 to 10 years) found that children referred for medical evaluation of sexual abuse will use sexually explicit behavior to demonstrate what has happened to them with nonanatomical dolls as frequently as when they are interviewed with anatomically detailed ones. (Author/DB)

Saarni, Carolyn – 1985
The first part of this paper discusses presentations by other symposium participants which addressed different facets of the developmental paths involved in understanding one's own emotional states, the emotional states of others, why one feels what one does, and whether or not one shows these feelings expressively to others. It is the premise of…

Ohta, Masataka; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1987
Analysis of diagnostic questionnaires completed by Japanese parents of 141 autistic children below the age of 12 found that the Japanese peak of abnormal social behavior, including autistic symptoms as reported by parents, was from the ages of 3 to 9 years as compared with the U.S. and European peak of 3 to 6 years. A Comparison of Parent-Reported Fear for Autistic and Nonhandicapped Age-Matched Children and Youth.

Matson, Johnny L.; Love, Steven R. – Australia and New Zealand Journal of Developmental Disabilities, 1990
Parents rated the fears of their autistic children (n=14), and results were compared with ratings for nonhandicapped same-sex, same-age (2.5-17 years) peers. More autistic children than nonhandicapped children were rated as having specific common fears. Fears of autistic children were often different suggesting qualitative variations or…
