This article maintains that educators of students with visual impairments, especially those with additional problems served in residential schools, need to give priority to habilitation, to identify habilitation needs in the individualized education program, and to implement strategies to meet these needs. An interactive videodisc-based simulation was used to train 3 students (ages 12-17) with moderate disabilities on locating and purchasing items in convenience store settings. Twenty young adults with mild disabilities were taught savings account, bill paying, and money order skills using a self-paced workbook. The study found that both task-sequencing methods used (cumulative and interspersal) produced statistically significant and comparable improvements in performance, which were maintained at follow up.
