Perpetual Motion: Creative Movement Exercises for Dance and Dramatic Arts.
Pomer, Janice
This book explores the moving world, introducing more than 100 movement experiences organized around the themes of rules, recipes, props, poetry and prose, objects and images, and integrated arts. It is intended to help the teacher develop an eye as choreographer. The book includes six chapters. Each chapter identifies a theme, specific learning skills, recommended exercises, and a strategy for stimulating class discussion. The first five chapters contain creative movement exercises designed to engage students physically, creatively, and intellectually. The chapters emphasize creative movement concepts and movement terminology; choreography; common and uncommon props; listening skills, language development, performance dynamics; and discussion of objects and images. The final chapter outlines four integrated arts projects applicable for students of mixed abilities. Using Dancescape projects, students translate information they have studied in school or collected through observation assignments into choreography developed in ensemble fashion. A three-step teaching template is used throughout the book to provide teachers with a consistent structure for planning classes. The book also includes random factors, a glossary of movement terms, and a learning skills reference chart. Five appendixes contain random factor variations, warmup ideas, a discography of relevant music, an assessment strategy, and information on stage directions. (SM)
