Lessons on earthquake safety involving planning, preparation, and practice are presented in this booklet for teachers. Included are classroom activities designed for K-6 students, teaching notes, "Learning Links" that summarize interdisciplinary connections, a set of 15 masters for reproducing transparencies, handouts, and worksheets. Part 1 shows students how to recognize an earthquake and take immediate positive action. Part 2 teaches students to identify and eliminate hazards in the classroom and home. The third part presents information on creating class-devised emergency kits and offers strategies for students to share their knowledge of earthquake preparedness. Part 4 describes an earthquake simulation and drill, and stresses the importance of discussion and problem-solving sessions and developing student self-competence. (7 references) (LMI)
