Supervision for Staff Development: Ideas and Application.
Doll, Ronald C.
The fundamental purpose of educational supervision is to increase the confidence and improve the competence of teachers. This book is a guide for supervisors and teachers in the training and development of teaching staffs in school systems; it also serves as an informal text for use in college and university systems. The book offers opportunities for putting the thinking about supervision into practice. Expository material is followed by practical exercises related to each major chapter section. Chapter headings are: (1) Educational Supervision: From Inspection toward Vitalization; (2) The Seedbed of Supervision: People and Setting; (3) Directing Supervision toward Staff Development; (4) Change, the Medium of Supervision for Staff Development; (5) Strategies Used in Supervising for Staff Development; (6) Supervisory Actions That Contribute to Staff Development; (7) Stimulating and Rewarding Able Teachers; (8) Utilizing and Redirecting the Abilities of Less-Than-Able Teachers; (9) Communication and Coordination: Twin Resources for Supervisors; and (10) Evaluating Programs of Supervision.
