How to Conduct a Training Workshop. Outreach Series Paper (Number 1).

Prepared for outreach projects of the Handicapped Children's Early Education Program, the manual presents information on developing an efficient yet thorough training workshop to teach others to replicate a program. Twelve steps are described: (1) identifying model components (grouping according to chronology, personnel involved, etc.); (2) defining model components; (3) gathering information (resource folders, bibliography); (4) brainstorming training content; (5) reviewing training content; (6) developing performance objectives (helpful formats); (7) generating a presentation outline (common ways of organizing an outline); (8) selecting interest elements (verbal, visual, interactive interest elements); (9) conducting a needs assessment; (10) developing an agenda; (11) developing an opening and closing; and (12) evaluating the workshop (self-evaluation, participant evaluation, knowledge testing). Sample agendas and evaluation checklists are included. (CL)
