STEP: Special Training for Employment Program: A Program in Vocational Special Needs. A Curriculum.
Lister, Robert; Anacki, Walter
The guide describes the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), an approach to providing mainstreamed handicapped high school students with basic vocational skills needed for employment. It is explained that students are first evaluated through the Comprehensive Occupational Assessment and Training System, which provides information on job matching, living skills, employability attitudes, and work samples. The STEP program curriculum is presented for three vocational training areas: food preparation (including safety, sanitation, and nutrition); health occupations (including first aid, nurse assistant, and health education); and construction trades (including carpenter's and painter's assistant). Each lesson includes information on objectives, materials, teacher activities, student activities, and evaluation. Each of the three areas is concluded with a listing of resources on the topic. (CL)
