Developing a Whole School Approach to Working with Parents: It Takes a Whole Village To Educate a Child. Guidelines for Schools in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
Alexander, Titus
Noting that an effective partnership between school and home can be one of the most powerful ways of helping children learn, this book provides guidelines for developing a whole school approach to working with parents to governors, parents, teachers, and other staff. Offering a wide range of good practice and practical ideas for developing an appropriate school policy, the guide consists of three parts. The first part deals with creating a policy and covers the following steps: getting started, developing a policy, writing a policy, and putting policy into practice. The second part presents a variety of policy options and strategies such as making first contact, welcoming, listening to and involving parents, fundraising, and the school-community partnership. The third part deals with keeping the policy under review. A summary of parents' rights in education is included. (AP)
