The objective of this research was to develop a systematic and accurate process for the assessment of concerns of 408 graduate students in University of Tennessee-Knoxville's College of Education, utilizing a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. A 77-item, Likert-type instrument was developed, with a final open-ended question, covering five categories of interest: administration, faculty, courses/curriculum, facilities, and personal concerns. The most positive ratings were given to the faculty area, with the five top-rated items being advisor's knowledge of field, departmental faculty's knowledge of field, advisor's helpfulness, advisor's instructional ability, and advisor's availability. Students were generally pleased with admissions, registration, and the library. The evaluation of their courses and curriculum were also at the level of acceptable or better. They were not pleased with parking and financial aid. Some of the lowest-rated items were orientation of new students, financial aid publicity, placement services, summer course availability, and secure storage for student materials. Results are analyzed by gender, race, age, graduate assistant status, full-time/part-time status, and department. Six references and a copy of the questionnaire are appended. (JDD)
