Families and other caregivers play a major role in children's learning and success in school. Psychologists have learned a great deal about how families can help their children learn and thrive in the classroom. Through conversations with caregivers and extensive research, psychologists have developed ideas about how children learn, what helps them to be motivated to do well, the role of children's behaviors and emotions in learning, and how assessments and tests can be used to help children. In this guide, the authors present 10 important principles from psychology that families can use to help their children succeed in school. For each of the 10, the authors define and explain the principle and provide relevant suggestions for what strategies families can use to help their children learn and succeed in school in the Pre-K, elementary, and secondary school years.
