Minnesota Office of Higher Education
Many people wonder where to start when it comes to paying for college. This guide is intended to help answer questions about paying for college. Applying for financial aid is not difficult, but it is important to plan ahead and understand all of the options. This guide provides information about: (1) grants; (2) loans; (3) scholarships; (4) tuition reciprocity and reduced tuition; (5) tax credits; (6) saving for college; and (7) how to contact each institution. The guide also discusses financial aid and what it is: (1) Grants or scholarships: awards that do not have to be paid back; (2) Loans: borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest, usually after your education is complete; and (3) Work Study: money earned through on- or off campus employment while attending college.
