Empowering Parents School Box: What Parents Need to Know
US Department of Education
This booklet is designed for parents of school-aged children to introduce the concept and benefits of "No Child Left Behind" ("NCLB") legislation. Calling for a highly qualified teacher in the core subjects in every classroom, the goals of "NCLB" are centered in four principles: (1) holding schools accountable for results; (2) giving states and districts flexibility in how they spend federal money; (3) using scientific research to guide classroom practice; and (4) involving parents by giving them information and choices about their children's education. These principles and how they impact the individual student and parent are outlined. Tips for helping your child succeed in school are also included.
