Prepare Your Child For Reading Tests: Tips for Parents = Prepare a sus hijos para tomar pruebas de lectura: Ideas para padres.
Bachman, Tori Mello
Parents can help their children prepare for reading tests in a number of ways, not only just before the test, but also with everyday activities. There are generally two types of reading tests given to students: tests given by teachers throughout the year to see what information students have retained, and more formal, often standardized, tests that are given to determine if students are meeting certain grade-level standards. Things parents can do to prepare their children in the days before the test are: explain the importance of tests, but develop a positive attitude; make sure the child gets a good night's sleep; a good breakfast is important; provide a nutritional snack to eat during break time; and stay positive on test day. Things parents can do on a regular basis include: be involved; read lots of different things with your child; encourage your child to ask about words he or she does not understand; make sure homework is being completed every night; urge your child to listen carefully to directions; visit your local library with your child; and allow your child to use educational, reading-based computer software programs.
