This second edition of the "Parent's Guide to the Internet" is intended to help parents--regardless of their level of technological know-how--make use of the online world as an important educational tool. This booklet provides parents with basic information about how to use the computer to find information and communicate with others. It describes what is needed to get started on the Internet and points to some of the many resources available online for parents and children. The booklet discusses: benefits of using the Internet; computer hardware and software basics; choosing an Internet service provider for online service; basics for exploring the World Wide Web and communicating with others on the Internet; Internet safety tips to ensure that children have safe, productive, and enjoyable experiences on the Internet; encouraging information literacy; supporting school use of technology; and sample Internet sites.
