Body Talk for Parents of Girls.
Stubbs, Margaret L.
This pamphlet, targeted to girls' parents, discusses issues surrounding puberty. The introduction discusses cultural images of menstruation and girls' attitudes towards it. Suggestions are offered for discussing menstruation with one's daughter. Suggestions focus on timing of introducing the topic; which parent takes responsibility for menstrual education; examining one's own attitudes towards menstruation; worries and positive thoughts about daughter's development; what girls want to know; and the best approach to take and ways to facilitate communication. Father-daughter menstrual education and boys' menstrual education are also discussed. References are included and sources of information for early adolescents are listed. (ABL)
