After High School. Educational Opportunities in Virginia, Book 5.
Virginia State Dept. of Education, Richmond.
This booklet provides information about postsecondary educational opportunities and career planning for upper-level high school students in Virginia and their parents. The introductory chapter is a general overview of education after high school: decision making, finances, career exploration, and information seeking. Chapter 2 focuses on postsecondary education programs in Virginia: colleges and universities, community colleges, junior and two-year colleges, vocational and occupational programs, adult continuing education, the general education development (GED) program, and military service. The college sections include information on admission procedures, financial aid, academic planning, and student services. Chapter 3 focuses more specifically on financial aid: how and when to apply, and the range of available grants, loans, and benefits. Chapter 4 lists and describes a wide range of career possibilities by category: artistic, scientific, nature, authority, mechanical, industrial, business detail, persuasive, accommodating, humanitarian, social/business, and physical performing careers. A list of key words is appended, along with planning checklists for junior and senior years in high school. Other Virginia publications in this series are listed. (TE)
