Campus Visits and College Interviews: A Complete Guide for College-Bound Students and Their Families.
Schneider, Zola Dincin
Advice about planning and preparing for campus visits and interviews is provided to college-bound students. The decision of whether or not to go for a campus visit and when to go is covered, along with planning and specific arrangements, such as contacting the admissions office. Also considered are what to look for on campus, how to read a college catalog, and the components of the college to be evaluated by the prospective student. The nature and importance of a personal interview are discussed, along with other types of interviews: current students, alumni, group interviews, the audition, and special-interest interviews. Advice on how to do well on the interview and tips for shy students are provided. Questions interviewers typically ask and questions the student may want to ask during the interview are identified. Twelve checklists are included on: deciding to go to for a college visit, making plans and arrangements for the college visit, admissions office and tour, main components on campus, questions to ask college students, evaluating the college, precollege student activities, interviews, making a good impression on the interview, what to do/not to do, and preparations for the shy person. A list of college guides for specialized needs is appended. (SW)
