Transforming Research into Practice. Guest Writer
Small, Ruth V.
Educators' Spotlight Digest, v1 n1 Win 2006
Librarians need to work with classroom teachers and college faculty to find ways to help students become more intrinsically motivated to learn. They can do this by providing challenging learning experiences that promote feelings of competence and mastery. It is the intrinsically motivated student that becomes a lifelong learner. In this article, the author looks at some teaching strategies that librarians at all levels might use to motivate their students: (1) making learning relevant; (2) building student confidence; and (3) feeling a sense of accomplishment.
