Harper, Meghan
School Library Monthly, v26 n6 p36-38 Feb 2010
This article features "Pop Culture Universe," which received the 2009 Dartmouth Medal honoring the creation of a reference work of outstanding quality. School librarians will find "Pop Culture Universe" a wonderful resource for assisting middle school and high school students with research projects on significant historical events that focus on decades within the last century. Although the "Pop Culture Universe" Web site states the digital information spans "American and world popular culture," the breadth of coverage appears to be centered on Western Culture, specifically American and British cultures. The feature article highlights recent updates to the database and is based on current events that reflect recent newsworthy cultural information. This article is designed to entice the user to explore more features and topics within the "Pop Culture Universe" database. The inclusion of political and entertainment events, or even a new movie release, is a fun way to entice users to access thematic, cultural, and many more related topics. (Contains 5 figures.)
