Cultivating a Spanish and Bilingual Collection: Ensuring the Information Literacy Connection
DelGuidice, Margaux
Library Media Connection, v26 n3 p34-35 Nov-Dec 2007
Three years ago, the author was a newly minted library media specialist, a bit green, but excited, enthusiastic, and ready to educate her middle school students. Once she learned that four out of the twenty-five sixth grade classes she was required to teach were bilingual "Dual Language Classes," the author was determined to use her background in information literacy to provide the best possible resources for this group of students. However, there was a difficulty in finding resources to support the curriculum needs of bilingual and English Language Learners. In this article, the author discusses how to cultivate a bilingual and Spanish collection, shares her experience in finding resources to support the students' curriculum needs, and presents the lessons she learned along the way.
