Valuable Volunteers: How to Find, Use, and Keep Them
McGown, Sue W.
Library Media Connection, v26 n2 p10-13 Oct 2007
A healthy volunteer program can be a great asset to any school library. Volunteers do much of the routine work that then frees the librarian to work with students individually or in groups, providing instruction and reading guidance. In addition to the physical work volunteers provide, they become strong advocates for a school library program because they learn all that school libraries do and and how they do it. They understand the process of preparing books for the shelf because they are involved in the many steps. In this article, the author presents several ideas for finding, using, and keeping volunteers. These ideas have been gathered by the author from various individuals.
