Self-Care for School Counselors: Lived Experiences of Yoga Practice as Burnout Prevention
Jennifer Dixon
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Kean University
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the lived experiences of school counselors currently practicing yoga during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was an examination of yoga as a self-care strategy to mitigate the stressors of school counselors' professional roles and responsibilities. A phenomenological research design was appropriate to collect data on the lived experiences of school counselors who regularly practice the mindfulness practice of yoga as a self-care technique. The findings of this study provide school counselors and school counselor educators with a deeper understanding of the benefits of yoga as a self-care method to handle stress and compassion fatigue and prevent burnout.
