This document consists of the third section of a book of readings on issues related to adult career development. The six chapters in this third section focus on target populations. "Career Counseling Women: Principles, Procedures, and Problems" (Louise Fitzgerald) reviews major approaches to career development and demonstrates ways in which they do not accurately describe or predict the behavior of women. It outlines diagnostic principles for assessing women's vocationally related problems and suggests specific techniques for intervention. "Adult Men's Career Transitions and Gender-Role Themes" (James O'Neil and Diane Fishman) investigates the interaction of men's gender roles and career transitions. "Career Development and the Ethnic Minority" (Anita Hughes and Barbara Smith) examines minority issues in adult development and the role of these issues as barriers to minority career development. "Conjoint Career Counseling: Counseling Dual-Career Couples" (Lynne Binder Hazard and Diane Koslow) describes a conjoint career counseling approach for dual-career couples. "Counseling Adults in Midlife Career Transitions" (Philip Abrego and Lawrence Brammer) provides a framework for understanding and counseling adults in midlife career changes. "Preretirement Programming: Beyond Lectures" (Marilyn Merikangas and Bruce Fretz) presents the shifting meanings, theories, and data about what leads to a retirement decision and describes practical experiences gained from conducting psychologically oriented retirement preparation programs.
