This resource book provides ideas, strategies, techniques, examples, and resources for organizing, implementing, sustaining, and assessing character education programs in K-12 schools. The text is organized into several topics: (1) historical and theoretical bases for character education; (2) a description of a comprehensive character education framework; (3) keys for implementing a successful character education program; (4) and an assessment of facts and findings of selected character education and related school intervention programs. Each chapter ends with quotes, questions, and readings intended to encourage class discussions, study groups, or the work of persons developing character education programs. Standards are given that serve as benchmarks for comparing existing programs or for initiating new programs. A resource section gives a list of character education organizations.
