This workbook is designed for people interested in facilitating Personal Futures Planning, a person-centered creative planning process designed to help people craft a life of meaning and contribution for a person with developmental disabilities. The facilitator of the Futures Planning process organizes a group to listen to the dreams and desires of the individual and take action over time to accomplish these dreams. The workbook is organized into five chapters discussing the capacities of effective facilitators. Chapter 1 examines basic values and assumptions about the change process and their impact on the facilitation process. Chapter 2 provides guidelines for creating the conditions that increase the likelihood that a plan will become a reality. Chapter 3 emphasizes the facilitator's capacity to manage a group learning process, using tools such as group graphics and meeting formats. Chapter 4 provides tools to help facilitators run an effective and lively meeting, through building an experience of community for everyone involved.
