This journal is designed to provide a forum for faculty and staff in the Maricopa Community College District (MCCCD) to exchange information about effective teaching methods for practical application and intellectual stimulation. The journal publishes articles on teaching, learning, and classroom research including those describing programs, projects, and research activities at the community college level. Following introductory statements by the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of MCCCD, this first edition contains the following articles: (1) "Teaching and Learning: Will We Be Ready to Face the Future?" by Linda Rosenthal; (2) "Make It Clear--Make It Correct: A Four-Step Writing Process," by Alex Joncas; (3) "Linking Honors Programs and Occupational Programs," by Alex Backus; (4)"Circle, Triangle, Rectangle," by Jane Willey; (5) "Just Be Yourself," by Joan Price; (6) "Mental Marathon: The Weekend Class," by Pam Walter and Charlcey Brabec; (6) "Retention: What Can I Do?" by Aileen Ormiston; (7) "Organizing and Relating Concepts: A Teaching Tool to Facilitate Student Learning," by Karen Atwood; and (8) "A Team Effort: An Educational Support Program for Student Athletes," by Douglas Ferguson. In addition, four educators express their points of view regarding at-risk students and their needs. (JMC)
