More Science Activities. 20 Exciting Experiments To Do!
Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.
Science and technology affect every facet of human life. By the 21st century, society will demand that all of its citizens possess basic competencies in the fundamentals of science and the use of technology. As science increasingly becomes the dominant subject of the work place, it is important to begin developing within children an understanding and appreciation of science early in their lives. This book provides suggestions for interactive science activities that can be done in a variety of settings, using inexpensive and readily available materials. The activities are designed as supplementary curricular materials and educational guides for use in teaching science. Each of the 20 activities in this book includes a list of materials, some background information, procedures, and suggestions for variations. Topics in this volume include making ginger ale; boats; making a strobe light; plants; flight; feeding birds; mud; nocturnal games; taste; making a kaleidoscope; vegetables; fruit flies; nutrition; rockets; making paper; ice cream; parachutes; magic; light; and making a radio.
