This packet contains materials, process guidelines, discussion questions, and suggestions that serve as a guide for a 3-hour training session on the topic of organizational culture for groups of from 7 to 21 (or more) adults. During the training session, participants simulate organizational behaviors following three different sets of cultural rules. Participants take turns playing the roles of organization members, community members, and observers. After simulating each of the three organizational cultures, participants identify strengths and weaknesses inherent in each culture. Final discussion focuses on cultural characteristics of effective organizations, how organizational members can cope with problems they perceive in an organization's culture, and what organizational leaders can do to manage organizational culture. A participant guide is included that discusses: (1) categories of organizational culture; (2) how culture is embedded and transmitted; and (3) methods for fostering a cohesive organizational culture.
