Quick Quality Check for Infant and Toddler Programs.
Knoll, Michelle; O'Brien, Marion
Intended for use by childcare center directors, this guide presents the Quick Quality Check, a practical method for measuring and improving the quality of care in infant/toddler classrooms. The four chapters of the guide discuss the specifics of the Quick Quality Check method for both infants and toddlers, including the instrument development, as well as how to implement the system and adapt a program after evaluation. Categories of observation for the 15-item Quick Quality Check for Infants are play, physical care, and interactions with caregivers. Categories of observation for the 15-item Quick Quality Check for Toddlers are activities, environment, and interactions with caregivers. The measure is best used as an overall index of the quality of care and not to evaluate individual caregivers. The results can also be used in helping caregivers to focus on ways to improve their classrooms and can be used when talking with parents about child care. The guide's five appendices include examples of the infant and toddler quality checks, information for classroom staff about the observation, a summary of research findings on quality child care, and references.
