Although devised for the college level, this teaching guide could serve as a foundation for the development of courses in sports history or to supplement existing courses in the social studies curriculum at either the elementary, middle, or high school level. The guide is organized into three section: (1) preliminaries, consisting of two sample introductory lectures and a student profile questionnaire; (2) an outline of sports history which includes outlines for 19 lectures ranging from "Sports in the Ancient Near East" to "Sport Themes in the U.S.A.: 1925-1988"; and (3) suggested student activities, primarily consisting of suggested essay topics derived by looking at pictures of sports activities.
