Exploring the Living Environments. H. E. Bulletin #41.
Washington Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Olympia.
This curriculum guide has been developed to assist home and family life education teachers in identifying goals, course objectives, and supporting generalizations in the area of housing. The guide includes five program goals: (1) make decisions based on the relationship between housing and the environment; (2) make housing decisions based on individual, family, and societal needs; (3) develop consumer competencies relating to housing; (4) develop competencies for meeting comfort, efficiency, and aesthetic goals of individuals and families; and (5) identify housing related careers. Divided into two levels of instruction, beginning for middle school level and advanced for senior high school level, each program goal is introduced with course objectives and supporting generalizations based on the instructional level. Each generalization is presented with suggestions for learning experiences, extended learning using outside classroom experiences, resources of print and nonprint materials and speakers, and leadership strategies. A 26-item bibliography of books, pamphlets, audiovisual programs, and other items is included. (DJC)
