This program guide is intended to provide information that is useful to local school district and community college administrators, instructors, program advisory committee members, and others charged with the responsibility for offering vocational education programs. It serves to identify the major considerations in the organization, operation, and evaluation of a word processing program. The first part relates to vocational education programs in general. It addresses legal authority, legal basis for program planning and coordinating councils, program structure, program development, program review and evaluation, and program advisory committees. The second part relates specifically to the vocational education program for word processing occupations. It provides a description of the occupation, student admissions criteria, and program course standards. A program outline contains sample learning guides that detail the duty area, task, performance objective, delivery system, learning activities with required resources, a criterion-referenced measure (checklist), and a criterion-referenced written test. Other contents of the guide include information on Future Business Leaders of America and Phi Beta Lambda, teacher qualifications, facility design criteria, an equipment list, a list of suggested instructional materials and audiovisual aids, and a resource listing.
