Social Studies 30: Curriculum Specifications.
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton. Curriculum Branch.
Based on prescribed social studies content and objectives for twelfth-grade Alberta, Canada students, the specifications described in this document are intended to serve two purposes: (1) to identify specific course content and objectives that should be considered in evaluating student progress and achievement in Social Studies 30; and (2) to delineate the specific content and objectives for which test items for the Diploma Examination in Social Studies 30 may be developed. The second portion of the document describes the curriculum specifications for the Social Studies 30 diploma examination in two topics: political and economic systems, and cooperation and conflict among states. Curriculum objectives relating to attitudes and certain participation skills are excluded from the weighting system for provincial examinations due to the inappropriateness of attitude testing and/or the difficulties associated with test construction and administration. This portion specifies the content and objectives eligible for classroom testing and outlines a recommended weighting system for consideration by teachers, administrators and developers. The third portion of the document indicates the weighting system that will be used in developing the diploma examination. Two tables are included: (1) "Relative Emphasis of Course Objectives and Content for Social Studies 30"; and (2) "Weightings for Social Studies 30 Provincial Diploma Examination." (TRS)
