Administrator's Guide for Art Education.
Roberts, Don R.; And Others
This guide is intended to help school administrators and educators in Arkansas develop and maintain a strong elementary and secondary art education program. There are six sections. The first section discusses the role that the school board, the superintendent, the principal, the art supervisor, the art teachers, and parents can play in developing an effective art program. Overall program objectives are outlined. The next three sections focus on the elementary, middle and junior high, and secondary art programs, respectively. Topics discussed include purpose of the art program, time and scheduling, methods of providing art instruction, and course content. Checklists are also provided for each level. The fifth section focuses on physical facilities. A number of topics are discussed, including specifications for self-contained classrooms, art supplies, equipment, how to convert a classroom into an art room, and art room plans. The concluding section deals with finance and operations, budget, criteria for selection of art supplies and materials, liability for pupil injuries, and community resources. A general bibliography is provided. (RM)
