The data presented in this paper result from the administration of the Rokeach Terminal Value Survey by several researchers to professors in four-year and two-year institutions of higher education, to grade and high school teachers, to priests, to businessmen, and to policemen. The data were collected from a number of different studies conducted over approximately a seven-year time span; in addition, and because the studies were conducted independently, some of the results are expressed in medians and some in means. An examination of the rankings of 18 values listed on the Rokeach Terminal Value Survey reveals a greater congruency than difference in priority rankings of professors in various academic disciplines, among professors in four-year and two-year institutions of higher education, and even among secondary school teachers. A similar pattern of preferred values emerges from persons engaged in non-academic occupations. Without exception, the top priority values (the highest three to five values) include values centering on the self; in only a few samples do the top priority values include social values.
