The validity and effectiveness of a test preparation program designed to prepare students for the Praxis II Content Examination for teacher certification in physical education were studied. In response to student requests for help, a faculty member at Southern Connecticut State University developed a study program consisting of a set of five seminar and workshop sessions that included a simulated test. Survey data were collected from participants using criteria for the program established, in part, through a literature review. In 1998-99, 18 students participated in the study program, and 16 passed the content examination on their first try, for an 88% pass rate. The pass rate for nonparticpants the same year was 54%, and the pass rate for all test takers from September 1994 through June 1999 was 64%. Findings from the formative committee that prepared the survey and collected the data were reviewed by a summative committee that made some recommendations for program curriculum, continuation, and improvement.
