Chapter 1 Corrective Reading Program 1985-1986. OEA Evaluation Report.

The 1985-86 Chapter 1 Corrective Reading Program, which provides supplemental individualized instruction in reading and writing skills for eligible nonpublic school students in grades 1 through 12 in New York City, is the subject of this evaluation report. The background of the program, evaluative criteria, findings and recommendations are presented in an introductory summary. Section one presents the program's purpose and features, criteria for student eligibility, a profile of students served and program objectives and evaluation as well as the scope of the report. Program organization and funding, curriculum and staff development are outlined in section two. In section three attendance is discussed, and methodology and results in reading and writing achievement are tabulated. Section four presents conclusions and recommendations. An appendix briefly describes reimbursable 1985-1986 programs. (Six tables of data are also included.) (NH)
