Mathematics Program Evaluation. Final Report.
Dangel, Timothy R.
The model used to evaluate the mathematics curriculum of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (Maryland) involved three phases: the curriculum; instruction, or the implementation of the curriculum; and students' attitudes, performance, and later success. The evaluation was conducted in 1984. Data were collected from seven sources: a review of the curriculum by five consultants, survey of current students, survey of former students, survey of school staff, survey of students enrolled in Algebra I as seventh graders, high school mathematics achievement data, and previously collected data which were available within the school system, such as student cumulative records, schedules, and teacher characteristics. About half of this document presents the results of the evaluation. Responses to questionnaire items are summarized, narrative comments are presented, and the source of the data is provided. Conclusions, observations, and recommendations were generally positive as far as appropriateness of the curriculum, graduate satisfaction, and degree of program implementation. The other half of the document contains the appended questionnaires for curriculum consultants, students, former students, students who took Algebra I in grade 7, principals and other administrators, guidance counselors, elementary school teachers, middle and junior high school teachers, and senior high school teachers.
