What the NHS long term plan leaves out

The NHS Long Term Plan, published this week,1 is defined as much by what it omits as what it contains. It includes, of course, headline friendly new aims: DNA sequencing for all children with cancer; the saving of 500 000 lives through improved prevention; earlier diagnosis of cancer; and improvements in mental health and maternity care. Under the plan, funding for primary care, mental health, and community services is set to increase more quickly than the rest of the NHS budget.
