Search History
Users logged in with a personal IEEE Account can set a preference to record their search history. When you do, IEEE Xplore saves your 100 most recent search queries. You can reuse these search queries and combine them to create new queries.
Turning on Search History
By default, your personal IEEE Xplore account will not record your search history. Here is how to opt in:
- Sign into your personal IEEE Account.
- Choose Preferences under My Settings or on the Advanced Search page. IEEE Xplore displays the Preferences page.
- Under Search Options > Search History Recording, choose On.
- Click the Update button on the bottom right.
Reusing Recorded Search Queries
You can reuse recorded search queries, but can also combine them for more targeted search results. Here is how:
- Choose Search History under My Settings in the main navigation or click the Search History link on the search results page. IEEE Xplore displays the Search History page listing your 100 most recent search queries.
- To reuse a single search query, click the query. IEEE Xplore runs the search and displays the search results page.
- To combine queries into a single search, click the checkbox next to the number of the first query you want to use in the new query. IEEE Xplore displays the query number at the top of your search history list.
- Click the checkbox next to the number of the next query you want to use. IEEE Xplore displays the query number at the top of the search history list with an operator drop-down menu next to the query. Use the drop-down menu to select the operator (AND, OR, NOT) for combining the two queries. Note: AND is the default operator used to combine multiple queries.
Note: Search queries that include the NEAR and ONEAR operators cannot be combined. - Repeat Step 4 to add additional queries to the search.
Note: Combined searches may contain up to 50 keywords and up to 10 wildcards (*). - Click the Search button to run the combined search. IEEE Xplore displays the search results page for the combined queries.
