- No action required from libraries to enable.
- No action required from users to enable. CASA linking will initiate automatically when users come to IEEE Xplore from Google Scholar.
- Provides 90 day token for access IEEE Xplore remotely.
If you would like to opt-out of Google Scholar CASA linking, you will need to opt-out of Subscriber links
How Does CASA Work?
Step 1: Initiate CASA while on-campus and authenticated via IP or remotely connected to the campus network using VPN.
Step 2: Visit Google Scholar, find an IEEE article through Google Scholar and click the link to IEEE Xplore. Google Scholar records an affiliation between your device (laptop, mobile phone, desktop, etc.) and your institution.
Step 3: Next time when you use the same device to visit Google Scholar from off-campus and clicks on an IEEE article link, Google Scholar can decide if this device is entitled to access the full text on Xplore based upon the affiliation established in the previous initial visit and attach a token to the article URL. Xplore will provide authentication if the data inside the token proves to be valid.
Step 4: Gmail can track multiple devices (laptop, tablet, mobile phone, desktop, etc.) used by a user. If you visit Google Scholar on campus while signing into Gmail, Google Scholar creates an affiliation between your institution and all your devices captured in your Gmail account. CASA will work across your multiple devices when you visit Google Scholar while logging into Gmail.
You can disable off-campus access links on the Google Scholar settings page. Once off-campus access links are disabled, you may need to identify and configure an alternate mechanism (e.g., an institutional proxy or VPN) to access your library subscriptions while off-campus.
