Browsing by Keyword

Use the following general procedure to browse the books, conferences, courses, journals and magazines, and standards in the IEEE Xplore collections by keyword.

  1. Use the Browse dropdown Browse dropdown to select a content type or browse By Topic. IEEE Xplore displays a page with a list of titles in alphanumeric order.
  2. Use the filter box to narrow results. Choose what you want filtered and click Apply Button in the appropriate sections to show:
    • A publication year or a range of years;
    • Titles by specific publishers;
    • Publications under specific topic categories;
    • Specific content types, such as journals (including transactions, reviews, and letters) or magazines but not both if you are browsing by topic;
    • Titles currently being published (active titles), but not legacy content (only for Journals & Magazines);
    • Standards of a particular version (e.g., Active, Archived, Draft).
  3. Enter one or more keywords from the title of the publication into the Search By Keywords box:
    Search by Keywords
    Note: If you are unsure of the spelling, you may enter a partial keyword.

    IEEE Xplore has a type-ahead feature that suggests titles of publications. If you see the title you want, select it in the pop-up box. Selecting the title also runs the search.
  4. Click Search, indicated by the magnifying glass icon. IEEE Xplore filters through each publication's title to locate the words you entered, and presents a list of titles including those words.
  5. Control the number of titles listed on the page and the order in which they are presented using the Results per page and Sort by drop-down menus.
  6. In the list of titles, click Show Version Details to view the title history.
  7. Click a title to view its publication page (for journals and conferences) or abstract (for standards, books, and courses).
  8. Click Current Issue tab to view the latest table of contents for the title (periodicals).

Stemming is enabled within the Search by Keywords function. For example, if you are browsing journals and enter the keyword package, the results will include titles containing packaging (such as IEEE Transactions on Advanced Packaging). If you enter the keyword compute, the results will include titles containing compute, computer, computers, etc. This capability helps you locate publications by subject when you are unsure of the exact title.

The results match your keyword(s) regardless of most punctuation you include. For example, if you search for solid-state, your results may include solid-state, solid state, and solid_state.
