Abstract:

Practical methods for making electroacoustic laboratory measurements of analog and digital speech communications terminals and connected audio devices are contained in this standard. The methods are applicable to a wide variety of wired, wireless, cordless, and mobile communication terminals. Examples include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Wi-Fi®, and softphone devices. Tests applicable to connected audio devices such as wired, Bluetooth®, and universal serial bus (USB) handsets, headsets, and wearables are included. The standard contains objective metrics, subjective metrics, and subjective metric predictors. Application is in the frequency range from...
Scope:
This standard provides techniques for objective measurement of electroacoustic devices used for speech communications, including communication devices also used for multimedia applications. Application is for devices that are primarily used closely coupled to the ear. Aspects of devices with speakerphone or speaker listening features are covered by IEEE Std 1329(TM). This standard is applicable to devices that include communication terminals that connect to a network, as well as to subsystems that connect to a terminal. The methods in this standard specifically apply to devices that connect to analog, digital, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and other l...
Purpose:
The purpose of this standard is to provide laboratory test methods for evaluating the electroacoustic performance of communication devices.
