Abstract:
Methods for developing regional icing maps, basic matters, and recommended techniques for predicting ice thickness using numerical models are provided.
Scope:
This guide provides basic principles and recommended methods for drawing icing maps for overhead lines (OHLs) using unified and efficient procedures. Specifically, methods to calculate the ice thickness are recommended to deal with various geographic areas with different terrain and/or weather.
Purpose:
This guide provides utility engineers and manufacturers with unified icing chart procedures and definitions to enhance communication and application among OHL design, operation, and maintenance personnel. Also, the guide specifies icing observation requirements on OHLs which are used to improve icing load calculation methods.
