The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand better how, if at all, eight campus-based mental health clinicians experienced and negotiated managerialist practices, and with what outcomes. It was found that managerialism was experienced as challenges to professional ethics, clinical judgment, and challenges related to professional role and organizational structure. Participants reported coping with managerialist practices by withdrawal from the institution, accommodation, or creative resistance and education. Implications for practice are discussed.
